What kind of job can I get like night auditing but not at night?
Asked by kats_cross
I love the work of a night auditor which I guess is mostly secertorial but the hours are killing me!
...and I suck at people skills I get all flustered when people start asking me questions!
Any help? any ideas on what would be a better job for me?

Hello kats_cross.
I hope you are not too cross to openly consider what I am to tell you.
Forgive me for being presumptious but I am assuming that you do not have a rare sensitivity to UV light on your skin or that you are one of the undead who must roam during the night.
If that is so then read on :P
Should life be a way of paying the bills? Or do you see personal challenges that only you can begin to address for yourself & that would guarantee permanent std. of living benefits for you & as a knock-on effect those that come into contact with you?
I see that you don't enjoy the work because of the time you do it, but because it guarantees fewer people around. I can see why that could be an advantage, not all people are great & those that are great are not great at all times. But then that does not matter. You cannot be responsible for other people's actions. If you are a true, honest & sincere person & are pulling your weight so to speak & other people are incapable of maintaining calm & polite interactions then that is their mishap.
We all have anxieties & fears. The thing to understand is that while the emotions that subject us to these restrictive states are real, that the need to feel fear or anxious is for the most part not.
The risk we are undertaking does not justify the level or magnitude of fear or anxiety within us. You see these are just primitive responses that once upon a time saved us from certain death in much harsher much more 'make or break' existances. This is why fear & anxiety (especially social anxiety can be so overpowering, because back then if you could build it into your will to do whatever it was inspite of the emotions, you were probably a gonner).
Sadly these mechanisms are almost redundant in today's world. Coping with them can be tough & particularly tough for some.
The first step is to realise what they are & what their purpose was. I hope you will begin to think this through.
The second is to realise that our brain is a great machine at seeking pleasure whilst avoiding unecessary pain.
However it does at the cost of long term pain that it rationalises away to avoid the short term stress & anxiety.
So with you it has come up with the night auditing job as a means of avoiding the anxiety whilst giving you the pleasure of being able to work at something you enjoy.
You can probably see what I am getting at. Your internal alarm is perhaps now going off, like, 'No way, no way, no way', but the thing to try & see, for it is the way things are, is that these feelings you live by are a cell of sorts around yourself.
They are restricting what you should be free to do, ARE free to do, it's only the way you are empowering these mechanisms that is placing you in this absurd position.
People skills are precisely that skills & there are plenty of websites & articles that will allow a bright person like yourself to work through them.
It is not hard (once you *see* it as possible - but you have to get 'outside of your head' that is where the 'bars' are keeping you at the moment), it can certainly be fun & even if you have some extreme anxiety about any aspect of the world - someone worse has worked through it already & is willing to help. The info & support is only a website away.
The thing is that you cannot control people, & you can certainly not change them. You can only change yourself. That is the beauty of it however. By changing yourself you can guarantee that people will treat you differently, so in a way you can control peoples reactions & responses to you! So you are able to define what your day's & what your life will be like. Note that all this starts & ends with your thoughts & the way you see yourself, your standing in the world, & where you want to be etc.
Your thoughts perpetuate your external circumstances & not the other way round as most people take it to be.
How do I know all this?
Because I was in a similar position to you, cowed & cornered by my emotional centre.
Do get in touch, & I will try & put you on to the right materials.
Why is this important?
Capable & happy people make the world a capable & happy place without resorting to forced smiles & bland politeness etc. that is the way it can be & should be.
