It is very possible the guy who never gets his hands dirty today used to when he was younger. He's learned enough about the business to supervise the work of others, and no longer needs leather gloves to protect his hands. You do, because you are newer to the business. But you can choose to move up through that business or move to another, or create your own. The choice is yours when you have a command of the language of the country in which you work. The choice is far more limited when you do not.
