What year of college do I need to start lining up post-graduation jobs?
Asked by cedorris
I've got just about 2 years of college left and I want to know when and how I need to go about getting my name out and lining up job offers. I am a Business Marketing major at the Univerisity of Oklahoma and am very interested in working for AT&T or Yahoo! after I graduate. If anyone could offer advice from experience that would be greatly appreciated.

Most companies will not accept resumes until you are close to graduating. I would start sending them out in earnest 3 to 6 months before your graduation. However, start looking around for part time summer positions or internships. If you have your heart set on a certain company, you want to get your foot in the door as soon as possible. Find a person that interests you and request an informational interview about the company. Be creative!

Wouldn't hurt to start at the end of your junior year.

Check to see if ATT and Yahoo! have internships because its a great way to get some experience and to get your name out there.

its never to early to start looking! Ask some of your professors at school about doing an internship during the summer somewhere, you not only gain valuable experience, but you also get your foot in the door so to speak.

I just finished my second year of university in Canada and already have a job lined up. I am a BBA major with a concentration in accounting. In your case though, I would begin by trying to find a job that is related to your field during the summer (or whatever time you have off) to gain a little experience and facilitate your job search once you near your last year. As for looking for a post-graduation job, you should begin during the last term of your junior year and intensify your search during your final year.
