How does one get a job on an Oil Rig?
Asked by apeedooz
My Husband wants to begin a career on Offshore Oil Rigs in a Roughneck Position, which is entry level. Do you need schooling for this, or will some Companies hire you and give you the training you need? There is a school in Nova Scotia, but it costs about $4000 for a 20-day Certificate course, and if he could get hired on without having to spend that kind of money, obviously that would be better. Also, do Offshore Oil Rig Workers actually make the kind of money that the Books & Web Sites Claim? We already know about Fraudulent Employment Companies on the Web, so we are not worried about getting caught up in a scam. If anyone does this kind of work, or even started out as a Roughneck, please share your experience, and if you know of any Companies that are willing to hire inexperienced hard-workers and train them, please let me know! Thanks!

he could also try getting on as a sample catcher with a mudlogging company and move up to mudlogger, which is a really nice job, I was offered a job with no oilfield experience, pay may not be as good as roughnecking depending on where you go but is probably a less physically demanding job, also could try to get on running casing etc, if you are looking for something in south louisiana area a few companies you could try are : petrolog, grey wolf, axxis drilling, frank's casing, offshore energies, weatherford, could also try some of the nationwide type places, like halliburton etc

i use to work for " MR. DAVE " oil rig company located in Cameron Louisiana . i started as a galley hand , roustabout , & roughneck . it's excellent money , and now i'm a certified photagrapher for oil rigs in demand . also underwater diver photagrapher. companies come to youe city and located themselves in certain areas . inform your self with employment places and they can tell you if they are in during those months and where . that's been15 years ago , and right now as i type this , i'm on my break on an off-shore here in DALLAS TX . they are always looking for workers . it's a risky job cause you spend alot of time on the water , but pays very , very good .

Try applying for a career with Slumberger, www.slb.com , they are a oil services provider and are hiring like crazy right now. I interviewed with them a few weeks back and have my second interview in a few weeks from now. Other than that I don't know anything else about it. Good luck

You can also get all your safety tickets, and usually they will hire you and train you at the same time.
