How do I become an event event coordinator?
Asked by Becky C
I am currently a preschool teacher. I have a knack for planning events and have done so both professionally and in a volunteer capacity. I would like to do this full time. I would like suggestions on how to get into the industry and what education requirements I may need.

Start by reading about the event planning business. Here's one book:

There's so much more to event planning than just marketing yourself. You have to figure out your pricing strategy, line up vendors, suppliers, services, venues, and then think about marketing your services.
There are classes that offer you a certificate in event planning. And associations of event planners who might help you get started or who might offer you a part-time job so that you'll get more experience and exposure. Take a look at this list:

you just need to find your market and advertise. it sounds as if you already got a handle on it. go back to those that you have previously worked with and let them know that you are starting a business and that you would appreciate any referrals that they may have. good luck. I wish that I could think of something to start my own business sick of working for everyone else
