Does my boss want to fire me?
Asked by up_all_night
She is very non-confrontational as a person. I work in a child care center. I was hired two years ago to be a part time "floater" (person who works in all rooms/ages) and to relieve the teachers on their breaks. Lately she has hired so many new people that she doesn't know where to put me when I come in to work. I hate the feeling of not knowing where to go when I come to work. I want structure and routine and all I'm getting lately this passed month is a half hearted, "I don't know where to put you today, I guess go where you want to." Then I walk down the halls looking for a classroom that needs a helper and everybody says they're fine and they don't need anybody! Anyway..I'm perusing the classifieds. Should I just stick it out? I feel like a 5th wheel there.

you were hired as a floater. that's still your job. if you quit, you will not likely receive unemployment because the conditions of the job haven't really changed. you serve an important function. you are the back up plan. if someone is out sick - you are there to help. if no one needs coverage, you still have a job and paycheck. stick with it.

It's not good for your morale to stay unless you stand up for yourself. Make sure you know your legal rights, and have a back-up plan if it falls through. Best of luck!

man, does your boss own this business? if so, she's not very good with her money and if not then that company needs to get rid of her in that she can't get the payroll right! I'd leave just because she seems like a flake and i'd ask for a written reference before I left!
