OTR (over the road) drivers are usually paid about the same regardless which state they operate from. Local drivers' wages vary widely even within the same cities.

Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Fee Schedule General Knowledge Test $16 Endorsement Tests (each) $5 Skills Test $30 Commercial Driver Instruction Permit (CDIP): CDIP, New $10 CDIP, Modify No Fee CDIP, Duplicate (replacement) $10 CDIP, Renewal $10 Commercial Driver's License (CDL): CDL, Change State of Record Variable ($60 or $75) Issued for 3 1/2 to 5 years to expire on operator’s birthday. Exact duration of first license depends on the date of issuance and the operator’s particular date of birth.
