Cost of living in Chicago Metro?

I'm considering taking a job in Chicago metro. It is an entry level job in retail management. I need to know where is the most economical place in the chicago metro area to live as far as apartemnts, utiliteis, so on and so forth go. Of particular importance is that my credit score is not the greatest, so any suggestions on where I might find a reasonably priced apartment on poor credit would also be appreciated.

I would look on chicagos craigslist. You can get a real good idea of the prices in the different neighborhoods and some of them you can get month to month and they wont check your credit. We have an apartment on top of our house in the burbs and we rented it via craigslist and didnt check credit.
