Do you have any advice for a brand new HR, Payroll & AP person who's never done this type of work?
Asked by ♥O.F.F.B.E.A.T.
Today, I got a promotion at work for a position in HR and also taking care of AP & Payroll; however, I have never been in that kind of position before... Is there anything I should know about this type of job? I would hate to go into it completely blank + I wanna be able to do a perform properly while holding the position. Any advice or recommendations?

Be prepared for alot of questions about raises, overtime and when are you going to pay your bills. Also, being an HR entails doing interviews (i guess) and looking after employees (keeping track of sick days, leaves of absence and vacations). Payroll should not be that difficult so long as you are given all the info you need concerning raises and overtime pay. Accounts payable, can be easy as well. One trick I learned is that you can put off calls from collectors by saying that the check is in the mail, then give them the check number, but don't mail the check until maybe a day or two later. That way, if your budget is a little tight, you can have a bit of breathing room in order to take care of payroll or more immediate expenses. Also, since it takes about 5 business days to clear a check, you might want to be sure that you mai lthe check just before the weekend t ogive you time to make sure there's money in the bank. If you ask me, though, doing all three jobs is alot of responsibility and headaches. I wish you luck and I hope I have helped a little.

dont turn into a controlling ass bitch face like this one crazy HR person I had the misfortune to have to work with for a little while. She practically wanted you to bow down and kiss her ass, while she was shitting on your face.

im not in hr, i am just a worker, but i have some advice...please do not act sympathetic to the workers if you really are not. we see right through this and it is really frustrating. our hr reps do this all the time, and its obvious they could care less about us. it drives me nuts
