Depends what ages she's babysitting. For babies (under two), I think 15-16 is appropriate. For 5-10 year old's, I think a 12-13 year old is good.

A:
13 is a good age or older

Some children mature faster than others. I was 13 years old when I started, but my mom made sure I attended a babysitting course first. It was 6 weeks long.

A:
It depends on how responsible she is, but I would wait until at least 12. Also depends on how old the child is that she will be babysitting.

around 12 or 13.....some girls are mature enough to handle it earlier...but, parents want an older child watching their kids..... some parents of 9, 10 and 11 year olds still hire babysitters themselves.....

A:
Thirteen no doubt, because you have to be more mature and much older of course like in your teen years,to babysit.

A:
This depends solely on the maturity and responsibleness of the child. Some kids mature and are more responsible than others. Age sometimes doesn't factor into the equation.

I was about 12 years old the first time I babysat. I really think it has to do with the maturity of the babysitter, the age of the child she's sitting for, the time of day. There are too many things to consider. Would I want her watching a newborn? No - not at 9 1/2. She may be mature but she's not THAT mature yet.

I started babysitting for short periods of time (no more than 3 hours at a time) when I was 12. I'm 19 now, and my sister is 15, and we both babysit full time for our summer jobs. Tell your daughter that ready to babysit once she's ready to change diapers, give baths, and clean up puke, and has taken the Red Cross babysitter's course and gotten her certification.

I started babysitting when I was 12-13 years of age but I also baysit in my neighborhood where I was close to my parent's house. As I got older my destinations of where I baysit drifter further away from home because I was more of a responsible person. I knew what I was doing because I of all the practice. I ended up being a full-time nanny when I hit my 20's. But I would encourage your daughter to maybe try out an hour of babysitting in your neighborhood before doing it for long period of time especially when it comes to kids who may have medical/health issues. Your daughter needs to understand the concept of safety - child abuse, stranger at the door or the strange phone calls at the home she may be babysitting at - not completely focusing on the job and what can go wrong with that. (I have had nurmerous weird incidents) Just have her be really careful and have her get to know the parents before accepting a babysitting job (parents can be just as scary as the challenges of babysitting). She needs to knows that if something goes wrong her parents will be there to help her out. I hope this helps you.

Possibly as young as 12 or 13 if you know they are responsible enough to handle it, other then that I wouldn't go under the age of 14 or older because really it should be when her parents know she is ready to handle it. Before she goes into babysitting if might be a good idea to find a CPR/First Aid class for kids, I have heard of some that are for kids who wish to start babysitting and teaches them important skills.

She can start babsitting! She my is favorite age (not so old they know everything, and don't listen to how you want it done). I pay my little neighbor girl to come play with my kids in their room or the back yard while I clean the house, I can get much more done then when I'm alone, and she calls for me whenever someone cries or needs something. She can pour cereal, make sandwiches, make them think cleaning their room is cool, and other such things. She can make money and be a big girl babysitter with supervision. Then when she's about 12, she will have great experience and a reference.

Look into your state or provincial law regarding the age a child can be when they are left alone which includes the babysitters age. The rest is at the discretion of the parent. The length of time and the skills required of the caregiver may require an older person. Also experience level makes a big difference. Some 9 year olds are pros at changing diapers due to siblings.
