What is the starting pay at Blockbuster?
Asked by Ash
I am thinking about getting a job at Blockbuster, but I don't want to leave my current job if they don't pay the same or more.
For the record, I work at McDonald's, and I get $6, and it's my first job.

It would really depend on your area-- For example, as we all know, McDonalds and Burger King start a person out at minimum wage. However, since Hurricane Katrina, employees have been hard to come by down here in the Big Easy (New Orleans) and McDonalds is starting out at $10.00 to $15.00 per hour which is far above minimum wage. Burger King, is starting out at $10.00 per hour, plus offering a $6,000.00 (yes, six THOUSAND dollar) sign on bonus- meaning if you sign a contract saying you will work for one year, they will over the course of that year give you extra money, and by the end of the year, you get the last of your six thousand dollars.
Blockbusters down here pre-Katrina would start out at just above minimum wage, unless they hire for a managerial position. But like the examples above, it depends on the job market in your area-- they will pay more if there are less applicants to choose from, or if it is a bad neighborhood, etc. which would be difficult to keep employees.
Call up blockbuster in your area (see phone book for the the number) and ask what their starting pay is.
But do not leave your current job (unless it is causing emotional harm or threat of physical harm) until you have another job of equal or greater pay already lined up- that is my suggestion.

When I worked there I made about $45 per hour.
Keep in mind this was in the 80s and the store manager was on drugs and thought I was cute.

I started on $250,000 a year, but I worked in senior management, I think we paid the little people minimum wage in most cases.

Usually Blockbuster clerks get about 55-60,000 dollars a year depending on experience and knowledge of the cash register. Perks include being allowed to rent all the movies you want (as long as you do not rent the same movie at the same time) and unlimited useage of the water fountain. Some Blockbuster's have a disco lounge in the back for you and any invited guests. If I were you, I would make sure the one you are applying for has one of those, because they rock. I do not know what you other job is, but if you like brightly lit video stores that will fade away in a couple years due to Netflix, then this dream job is for you.
