How can I regain trust from a supervisor?
Asked by tasgilla
I work for a big company and I'm a support clerk for a specific department. But I have missed a couple of days and the policy on that is very strict. I am now hanging on by a prayer. What do I do besides not miss any more days to regain trust from my supervisor?

Nothing you can do but show up every day, on time and ready to work. During slack periods as for extra work. If it's a big company then they probably pay well and give benefits. There are TONS of people looking for your job. Don't take the previous advice. Your supervisor doesn't want to keep revisiting this issue. Just work really hard.

A:
Write your super and explain your situation and apologize for missing days.

If you had to miss a couple of days from for very good reasons, I don't see why you need regain his trust. I suggest if have to miss work because of an illness, you might want to go to the doctor or the emergency room and get an excuse. If you are a very dependable person, being on time and not missing any more days for a while should help.

Its so much harder to regain trust than to establish trust in the first place, but as a supervisor I am impressed by your asking the question. I think it would be appropriate to ask your supervisor the same question. All people are different so your supervisor might have certain things he is looking for in order to build confidence. In addition, just asking the question indicates that you are serious about your job, and are willing to do what it takes.

Forget writing any kind of response or apology. If you have something to say to your direct supervisor, do it face to face. If the supervisor you are worried about is higher up, speak with your direct supervisor about your concerns, then get advice about talking to the higher up. In any case, if you believe, or had been told that your attendance is the only issue, then that should be your number one priority. If you are doing the rest of your job right, nothing will fix your boss's worry except time. When your two absences are way in the past, their concerns will turn to something else. If no one in charge has yet spoken to you about this, it should be OK to simply tell your supervisor that you are sorry for missing the two days and that you have a plan in place so that it won't happen again. (fixed the car, seen the doctor, put a back-up plan in place) Don't promise the world. Just that you will do your best. You can't promise you will NEVER get sick. You will do what you have to. They will do what they have to.

I would keep your absences to a minimum, if you do need to miss work for illness bring in a doctor's note for every time to show that you realize that they are a problem for the boss and company. Just go the extra mile work-wise, and keep your work levels up to show them that you care about your job and the company and it was just a little speed bump. I wouldn't go to your boss and bring up the issue of absences with him/her unless they mention it to you. They know you missed the work, and no matter the reasons it has happened and now you both need to move on from there.

There are a lot of things one can do in order to regain trust from Supervisors or Bosses. The first thing is to do your work very dilligently and try to finish the given work on time. It helps being enthusiastic at all times. Hmmm why dont you walk into office with a smile every morning and keep your smile throughout the day when everyone has lost their smile Sleep early and sleep a lot so that you dont get tired during the day. When everyone is tired at the end of the day, you will still seem fresh and ready to go. Bring in some flowers to office and place them on your desk if there is space. Be gentle and warm. Say hiii to everyone. And lastly dont forget to be YOURSELF. I hope this changes things for you soon .
