if i study at sanjauquin valley college in correctiona officer does that mean that i have to work in the jail?

You can work in the parole offices but yeah most correctional officers work in prisons and jails.

You do not necessarily have to work in a correctional facility, but you studied in a school system that is geared to that particular field. Why wouldn't you? Did you mean you majored in Corrections? You can work as a civilian in Police or Sheriff agency. But if you went to school to study corrections, why don't you want to work in that field? Anyway,
If you work in corrections, you do not have to be a correctional officer, you can apply for in-house positions such as: Classifications, Intake, Administration, front desk clerk, they all pay reasonably well. It is just entirely up to you.
Don't be afraid to ask about alternative positions in Corrections. If you do not ask, you will not find out any answers. Ask your former Professors who taught you in this field. Dept of Corrections Human Resource Dept. Just ask about other positions you can apply for in the correctional dept or other related Criminal Justice depts . You shouldn't have any problems choosing a work field.
Try Administration, work in the office, you do not come in contact with inmates or correctional officers. You only deal with your supervisors, captains, and such..
