I want to start babysitting, how do I get clients?
Asked by Patty
I really need money and I'm really good with kids so I've decided to go look into babysitting. None of my friends have jobs so I can't ask them for suggestions and I was wondering if anyone in the Berkeley/Piedmont area needed a babysitter. This would be my first time actually getting paid so I would be very flexible with the salary and my schedule is wide open. Also if anyone has any ideas for getting clients please help me and I would really appreciate it. Thanks! (sorry i didn't know how to catagorize the question)

Run an advertisement in the classifieds in your local newspaper, make up flyers and place them in grocery stores, or even in elementary schools. You shouldn't charge much more than $3 per child per hour (as that is the going rate typically) unless you will be doing overnight sitting where you may be able to charge a set fee for the evening ($25 or so) Best wishes

go to ur local library, park, and community center. hang up fliers saying how old u are, ur first name, ur phone #, and why u feel qualified to babysit. it always helps to say when u are available and that u love kids and can babysit all ages and that u like animals. list a bunch of good qualities on ur flier so ppl will really want to call u. it works for me. i just made $60 babysitting for 6 hrs yesterday. it was really easy and u always get free food.

1. Decide on your rate and what hours you are available. 2. Create a flyer that has the above information plus how to contact you. Go to all of the churches, grocery stores, etc in your area and ask if they have a place where you can post the information. There are also online babysitting sites where you can register as a babysitter.

You could always post an ad in those free newspapers or see if the local papers have free ads, put up tear-away sheets on grocery store bulletin boards, find out where mothers hang out with their young children and start socializing, spreading the word. Or try volunteering or working at a daycare or preschool. Once you get established, you'll get more jobs through recommendations. Find out what the going rate per hour is (it varies) and set your rate by it, being firm since parents will fudge about paying if they can-- they'll respect you more and will pay you more down the line. Babysitting is just like any other job where you're independent and self-employed. Good luck!
