Has anyone been a resturaunt dishwasher?

I was and the dishes are still haunting me in nightmares! That was the worst job I have ever had! Anyone out there actually enjoy it, or at least tolerate it?

I was, and talk about your dish pan hands. One night I got so swamped they kept piling up faster then I could wash them(NO automatic dishwasher) the restaurant closed at 10pm and usually i was out of there by 11:30 well that night i was there until 4 in the freaking morning. I was so pissed no one bothered to lend a hand everyone just up and left and the darn manager fell asleep at the desk. Needless to say that I didn't stay there much longer lol This was about 12 yrs ago or so when I worked at a kfc and the dishes weren't the only thing i did, I was also in charge of the biscuits and potatoes making the cole-slaw. I hated that job lol After that I didnt eat at a kfc for over 5yrs lol

washing dishes is a cakewalk compared to cooking. i recently quit a cooking job i had for seven years...you want to talk about a freakin' nightmare????

I am every once in a while. I usually work on the line or in prep in our kitchen, but every once in a while I have to work in dish. It SUCKS!! I'd much rather cook than clean. I don't know anybody I work with that likes to work dish.

I'm an executive chef, and started out doing dishes, it is hard, but teaches one discipline, like boot camp in the military.

I was a kitchen manger and had my dishwasher not show so just who washed dishes that night that's right me enjoy not tolerate I guess since it was only for that night

I was a dishwasher at my Dad's restaurant from when I was 13 till I graduated high school. I got paid well, met lots of people when we weren't busy, and stayed out of trouble. I liked it but my problem is now I need to have my dishes washed my way. I've met other people like that too.

Yes, when I was in high school, I had a job as a restaurant dishwasher. That job was very awful! The prep cooks would always throw their large dishes in the sinks with food in them. I would have to try and get most of the food out of the sinks, because they had a tendancy to plug up. A few times I got them plugged up, and the manager threw a fit! Plus, I had to boil potatoes for the cooks. It was a total pain in the ***! If one piece of silverware had food left on it, because the dishwasher was a total piece of ****, the waitresses would chew me up and down. It was always a rush job, so I don't know how any of them got clean! I wouldn't have ate their food if my life depended on it, and I washed the dishes!

When the industrial strength dish detergent dissolves your wristwatch's band, it is not fun. I washed so many dishes at McDonalds they still haunt me. Add to that everything else in the breakfast shift (salads, biscuits, pies, working the grill). I always enjoyed cooking at home. At McDonalds, it was so stressful that I just crashed when I got home & didn't want to eat or see another dish.
