If they get paid hourly, about how much do they get paid? And if it's a salary basis, how much do they get then?

Most carpenters are paid by the hour. As far as pay rate, that varies from location to location. Here in the Chicago area, we're pretty heavily union and the pay scale is set by the union. Just as an example, though, an apprentice carpenter would probably make around $30,000/year, assuming he can work all year. But if you're in the South, the pay scale drops substantially due to the lack of unions. Either way, it's a pretty decent paying job if someone likes to work hard and create with their hands.

My husband is a carpenter and he has been paid both ways. If he is working for another builder, he gets paid by the hour. If he bids the job for himself, he gets paid what the job is worth. And as always, how much you get paid depends on where you live along with how much experience you have. Ask around in your area.

It depends, When my dad was doing carpentry in NY he was in the union and got up to $45 per hour. If you work for a company they may only get around 4-500 a week
