What is needed to become a career counselor in NY?

I'm planning to change careers. All the assesment tests indicate counselor to be my best career choice. I could go for MSW clinical social work, but need $ to pay off old tuition bill, then finish BA.

I went the human resources route, but am finding I will still need a counselling degree in order to do this. It may be different in New York, but from all indications this is true almost everplace in the U.S.

look at www.iona.edu under career oporunties for a current open position. most places require a BA or MA with experience in HR or counseling studnets. good luck
