welding is it bad for you, do you know a welder?

my hubby is a welder for a big shipbuildng company he's always moanng bout the health risks that he hears about from other welders and early deaths. i'm wondering if anyone knows about the risks and if they know anyone whose died early beacause of this work. thanks

My 3 brothers and dad are welders. There are some risks such as soot type stuff that could build up in your lungs but as long as you go for yearly check ups things should be ok. My dad has been welding since he was 14 years old and he's 59 years old now and has no problems.

like the previous poster says the biggest risk from welding is fumes, mostly modern welding is safe and the company your husband work for must provide a safe working enviroment including breathing euipment if needed under health and safety, i have been welding for years and my worst problem was being flash blind for two days from an arc when i didnt have my mask down,

its because some of welder are careless of there body no proper protection and after work drink a hard liquor.they cannot take rest even 1hrs.welding job is a very risky .like for example radiation ,fumes and gasses.is very dangerous to the body..
