Depends on who you work for and what organization. Many who have their A&P license work for the military or their affiliates like Boeing, Lockheed etc. Most of the techs trouble shoot the systems and do the repairs themselves, with a second QA tech ensuring all repairs/checks are preformed correctly. The avionics guys work on just the electrical components, not many mix the three, it's either avionics or A&P. Hope this helped a little.
