The same question was posted at Wall Street Journal's CareerJournal.com http://www.careerjournal.com/columnists/qanda/school/20000101-qandaschool-q0004.html . The advice is to pursue technical leadership training, and one approach is to get certified in project management. Information Week is a very good publication for CIOs, and they have articles on how one can be CIO http://www.informationweek.com/docs/secret.htm Other articles worth checking The CIO's Role In Risk http://www.cio.com/archive/110104/edit.html How to be considered in a CIO role http://www.cio.com/research/executive/questions/08102002155248.html
