Do I need to get an MBA to be a productive National Account Manager?
Asked by cole h
I just got a promotion with my current employer. I was a District Manager, but now I have been promoted to an Account Manager in training position. I really want to do well at this position, but I'm a bit worried because I need to know how to figure out margin, gross margin, cost, points, etc. I really don't know much about those types of things since I went to law school instead of pursuing an MBA. Is there a book that I can purchase that sums up how to figure out all of those things. Also, I have been debating going back to get my MBA. Would that help? Should I decide to get my MBA, what concentration would help me out the most? Finance, marketing, or some other concentration? Any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated because I'm clueless! Thanks again.

You don't really need an MBA for that. What you probably need is a couple of good business math books...here is one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0538432535/sr=1-3/qid=1156276069/ref=sr_1_3/002-6447691-2087236?ie=UTF8&s=books
Another degree helps, but you definetely don't have to. If you are in sales, is probably good to specialize on Marketing. If you deliver at work, your boss does not really care if you have an MBA. So as long as you know what you are doing, you are ok.

the very least it will do is impress your bosses with your
desire to do your job well.
