AT this age of mine, 60 years old, do i still have chances of getting employed as a CAREGIVER to elderly ?
Asked by nimlyn
I can also be a TUTOR to a child. If I have a slim chance, please advise for an option. Thanks.

Your age is not the strongest factor in being a caregiver, the condition of your body is the primary factor. Do you have a heart for the elderly? Can you treat even those who cannot remember their names with respect and love? Does changing and cleaning a person when they have an accident bother you? Can you interact with them without being harsh and critical? Do you have patience? Can you pass a criminal background check? If the answers to the above questions are yes, then go for it. There is a great need for qualified caregivers in smaller residential homes who will treat the residents with respect and kindness. Check it out on your own, you might be surprised by the response you will receive. I hope you find what you are looking for. Misty
My husband and I are the owners of a residential care facility and have 3 years in the business and we also have experience in taking care of our elderly parents.

Yes, many eldery would perfer another older person as a Caregiver, and agencies welcome older and more experienced employees. Check the phonebook for agencies in your area, and also ask at the library for referals. Best wishes.

Honestly, at 60 years young, I'm sure you got alot of caring in you to give...I think absolutely you have a chance. If you're looking to be a patient care technician, (STNA), that is a tough job, because it requires much physical strength. My mom is 48, and she did it for 3 months...it wiped her out, and she had to quit. But I know being a sitter or a home health care worker is not so strenuous. They sit and keep company with the folks who need it. I'm sure you would be wonderful at it. I would also call schools in your area, or the local college, and offer tutoring lessons. When I was in college, I always hired math tutors. I didn't care how old they were. I even had a blind man as a math tutor, and he was the best one I had. The world is yours for the taking.
