Off Shore Oil Drilling?
Asked by johnson4730
Has anyone ever done off shore oil drilling? I am thinking about applying for a job as a Measurments while Drilling Engineer. Has anyone ever done this job? Or worked on a rig? What is it like? How many week there and how many weeks off? Was the work dangerous, or just involve 12-16 hour days? Whats better off-shore drilling or on-shore? like in the oil field?

Hi, My husband works on a rig, he loves it, says its challenging but rewarding..... BUT beware, it is NOT for the slacker.... so if you are a hard worker, and not afraid of 12 hours on 12 hours off for 14 to 21 days go for it.... that's my hubby's schedule... either 14 days on or 21 days on.... depends on the job.
The pay is fantastic! but it is a little tough to get on sometimes, you will need a good resume, and some good past work references.
They will hire you with no experience, and once your on the rig for 6 months, you are considered experienced... if you have a specialty.... like crain operations... you will have a plus....
It can be dangerous, twice my husband has almost been either seriously hurt or killed.... but only because of an unsafe co-worker... one man he knows lost a couple fingers,a nd one broke a couple vertebrae in his back!
so Yea, it can be dangerous, its a very heads up job, you have to be alert...
oh and you have to work in any weather, rain snow hot, it doesn't matter.
I hope this answers your questions.....
i am adding a few links for you to look into if you want.....
