What kind of shifts do police officers have?
Asked by roddy414
Is it possible for me to become a police officer but I go to school at the same time. My school does offer night classes, but is it an option for me take the morning shift only if I were to become a Cop. Either for New York or Los Angeles. Maybe even a New Jersey State Trooper.

It depends on the department you work for. My department works 12 hour shifts 4 days on 4 days off and we rotate from night shift to days every 3 weeks. Most departments are very pro education. The smarter you are the better officer you make. So they should help accommodate you and work out a shift so you can get some classes in. I don't think any department will be able to let you go full time. You will have to take a course here and there.

It depends on the agency, alot of them in Arizona will do 4 10 hour shifts giving you 3 days off (not necissarily consecutive). Still many other agencies have 8 hour shifts. regardless of work week, they always have early, swing and graveyard, usually with some overlap.Different departments handle court time different too. Some go on regular shifts, some go off duty with overtime, or more often comp time. good luck.

i know some police officers work 4 days then have 4 days off. it also depends on how their rosters are. some might work 2 weeks straight and then have 1 week off or vice versa
