What is a redhat in the coal mines?
Asked by 007

A:
Best Answer:
"Red hats" are trainee miners, who undergo six months to a year of intense training before they earn their official mining papers. They wear red mining hats so the experienced crews can spot them easily and help mentor them along the way. The veterans also watch out for their safety. A black mining hat comes only after a full year of training and work.
