How do I switch from Mechanical Engineering to Industrial Design?
Asked by Orange77
I work in automotive engineering and the job/environment is stifling. I need a more creative outlet. Industrial design seems perfect to me, but I don't know how to get my foot in the door. Everyone wants a portfolio. I have no clue. Help.

In order to have a portfolio, you need to get a degree in Industrial Design. Search the internet for accredited schools. One of my family members also switched to Industrial Design. Also, be sure to do informational interviews with Industrial Designers to get a feel for how it is. Be sure to research the schools because different schools have varying styles. Some emphasize more technical aspects..whereas others emphasize style. Good luck.
