Do anyone have or know someone who has their own home daycare business?
Asked by meKrystle
I'm interested in starting my own home daycare business, and I was wanted to know how it has worked out for some people. I have quite a few distant family members who do and have been sucessful, but I want to make sure they're just not lucky. If you do have your own business... How long have you been doing it? Do you enjoy it? Are you earning a decent income? What do you charge? What made you choose to start it? I'm interested in what you guys think about it. I personally want to do it because when I have children, I want to be able to be home with them while having a decent income for the household. I attended a class about a year ago to get licensed, but I was never able to get it started because I lived with my parents. But now I'm moving out with my fiance and was thinking about starting it again. I just wanted to hear some personal experiences. I know I have to baby proof everything. I was considering getting insurance incase anything does happen to a child. And I know I can have a policy that if a child is sick, they won't be allowed to stay in the daycare that day.

i know several people that run their own daycare and have been in several myself as a child. rates will depend on your area- you want to have as many children there as your license allows so you can maximize profit, you can charge by the hour, by the day, or by the week. figure in the meal cost too. most regulars charge by the week. you want to have a fenced in yard if you are in town and make sure all your toys and equipment are safe CPR certified is a must Have areas of you house that are off limit to the children- like your bedroom / computer room so you can contain them better and still have some personal space. have a play room with good educational toys like puzzles, abc, drawing boards, crafts so you can impress the parents and keep the kids entertained make sure your fiance is supportive of the decision and can stand having kids over all the time- make sure you get out of the house(during the weekend or weeknights) a little bit so you dont become stir crazy and stressed out go online and research, research, research good luck

You look very cute with that bubble around your face area. But other than that, no, I do not know anyone who runs a daycare. Bye bye bubble gum girl.

I owned a home daycare for 2years it was very successful..I made about 800.00-1000.00 per week plus got reimbursement monthly for food through the food program..I moved out of state and thats why I stopped.. I always think about re-starting, but the downside that I always think about is that I got tired of being in the house all day..by the time the children left..I had to deal with my own children and after that to bed I went..no life outside the business

Hi, at one time I considered running a daycare out of my home since I had a young child and preferred not to send him to daycare and keep him with me. The only way I could think of doing that is if I ran a daycare out of my home. Some thoughts.... Generally you have to be licensed, and to be licensed your entire house has to be completely baby proof, in strict accordance to the law, with absolutely no missing door locks, all drawers locked, gate enclosures, no chocking hazards, no books to pull down on their heads, etc. ad infinitum. There are more on the list, like cleanliness, etc, Other problems are being tied down to the house all day and not being able to take a day off like you can at other jobs. Or take an hour or two off for a doctor or dentist appointment, etc. There may be a special consideration if you own a pet that it not bite, and your backyard if it deemed to be dangerous in any way. (for example a metal swingset that has a prong sticking out). You can request a copy of the requirements at your local state/town office. I was thinking that after all that, even though I love kids, I may not be happy being around whiny kids all day. My mother clinched the deal, she reminded me that in that type of profession you are legally liable for anything that could happen. A child tripping and cutting open his lip, or any of the other types of things that happen to little kids. You would always to be to "blame". The Moms think you are going to play favorites with your little one, but you'll be too busy for that. It's a very physically & emotionally demanding job. And, what happens if you get sick? You have to feel guilty and call all those parents? Also, what happens when a mother habitually brings her child to your daycare with a runny nose and infects the rest of your kids. There are touchy topics with your "customers". Anyway, a few things to think about.
