as an owner operator what should i considor when buying a second truck to put someone else in?
Asked by sean_mchugh6
it would be over the road and working for Werner. i figure id pay the guy more than he could make as a company driver and then pocket some of the money that he brings in for myself.
is this a horrible idea? it would probably be difficult to find a good reliable driver right? does anyone have some experience in this or advice they could offer?

No, it isn't a horrible idea. It's called capitalism, and that's what this country's economy is based on. You are entitled to a return on your investment in a second truck, and that's the difference between what your driver would get as a company driver, and what you charge the company for the truck and driver combination.
You're right that the main problem will be finding a reliable, experienced driver. You also need to know why he left his last job. If it was because he was on a contract and the contract ran out, that's probably okay, but if he was late for work every day and picked up traffic tickets, that's not okay! Basically, you need to know that he's up to date on all his licenses and permits, and has a good driving record. That's what you'll be paying him for.
Good luck with your enterprise.
