A store manager is responsible for increasing profit. Here are a few ways we do this: Merchandising: Its all about getting the right product in the right place, at the right time. We make out plans for our sales floor, and make sure the presentation is right by coaching and training our associates to properly stock and merchandise the goods as they come in. Balancing the P&L, the bottom line: Payroll, supplies, product perchases, building repairs and utilities are just a few things that can cut into the bottom line. A stong manager can balance getting a large frieght load processed with keeping employee payroll dollars under budget, and so on. This is all really only the basics. A retail manager has to become an expert at human resources, labor laws, loss prevention, etc. The target of a clothing store would be dependant on many things. Size of the shop, customer traffic, previous P&L statements.
