Do I have the qualifications to fill a "full charge bookkeeper" position?
Asked by thatladybugc
I have no training in bookkeeping as far as school courses. But, through self teaching I have worked for companies that used Quickbooks and Peachtree Accounting programs for the past 5 or more years, keeping up with A/R & A/P, reconciling bank statements, pulling reports, etc. Or what would be your description of the duties for a full charge bookkeeper?

YES!! Almost nine years ago I asked that very same question about the job I'm working now!! I had experience in A/R & A/P with several jobs but I had never done payroll or reconcilled a bank statement. I was so scared that I had taken a job that I wouldn't be able to keep. I'm still here!! I work for a boating company and it's great. Just remember, whatever company you go to work for, is going to train you the way they want things done and on the software that they use. GO FOR IT!!

Do you have a very basic understanding of accounting? Do you do payroll tax forms or enter the information if an outisde company does it? Do you put together the financial reports (Balance Sheet, Income State,, etc)? If so then definitely FC. Just AP, AR & Bank recs with no General Ledger is not FC. That means you have things all done to the point an outside accountant just has to review them.
