If my name is Mohamed, which state should I search for jobs into without being discriminated against?

I want to work while studying... I might go for a graduate diploma or an MBA if I could get the financial aid. But I'm afraid that I'd be discriminated against because of my name... what should I do? Or I'm imagining that I'd be discriminated against? Actually I still didn't move to USA, but I'll do that soon. If you will ask me why I want to go to USA while being scared of discrimination, I will tell you it's because I don't always trust the media and I do beleive that USA is the land of opportunities. Thanks shogun_316 about the typing compliment :) Well, I don't have a problem with English whether reading or writing... I'm from Egypt, so it's up to you to consider that Middle East or North Africa. It's just that I have the chance to immigrate to USA "legally" and I know people who did everything they can to move to USA yet they failed. I want to take my chances but the media scares me about how Muslims are treated in USA... but I don't trust the media, so that's why I'm asking this question. Well, I'm a white male... and is it easy to change names in USA? It would hurt my parents feelings anyway :(

There is a bigger population of middle eastern people i.e. Mohammed's, Said's, Abdullahi's, and other Muslim names in Michigan, Ohio, Arizona, Minnesota, Illinois, Massachussetts and Indiana that I know of. I'm not sure about other states, though. These I know for sure have a larger Muslim population which means more accepting to diversity. Also, check on Yahoo and do a search on Mosques that way the cities that have more Mosques will have more muslim communities and thay will probably have less discrimination to names for jobs.
Work with a lot of immigrants and placing them in careers.

Listen up Mohamed. If you think you will be discriminated against because of your name, than you need some counseling man. America is a CAPITALIST country. They WILL HIRE anybody who will make them money and GAIN them more money. That is what qualifies an individual for a job, not his name. Chances are you may be discriminated against your color, rather religion and name.

A celestial state is the only one where you won't find discrimination. I wouldn't trust the media, the government or much of anyone. I don't even trust myself sometimes. Maybe San Francisco area, but housing is $$$$! Good luck and blessings.

Honest answer? Dearborn Michigan has a high population of "middle eastern" people. Assuming you are one of course. But a lot of the major cities have so many people in them, you shouldn't have too many problems. You're already typing better than most people on here.

Seriously, I would change my name. If the idea of changing your name is unthinkable to you, then you shouldn't come to the US. You will encounter discrimination, and you will become bitter, which will be bad for all. Unfortunately, this is a strong likelihood. I am an educated, liberal thinker. However, in these days, even I have much difficulty being politically correct with regards to Islam. We have simply received too many negative impressions; it is very hard to remain open and accepting about it. I'm sorry if that offends, or disappoints you. But this is really intended as advice, nothing more. You can change your name to something similar, like "Monty" or "Moe" but don't expect Americans to love and smile at "Mohammed" at this point in history. Even with the name change, you will STILL encounter discrimination. I recommend New England. Perhaps Burlington, Vermont.

As long as you're not a white male you have to be hired first in the U.S. The govt. requires that businesses hire minorities and women first before considering hiring a caucasian male. It's called reverse discrinination. congratulation!

Michigan, Largest population of arab speakers within the U.S., and islam is accepted there better than most other states.
