what is the difference between an accountant and accounting clerk?

An accounting clerk usually does lower level work, like accounts payable. An accountant typically does bookings to the GL up to Controller.

A:
An accountant is usually qualified by examination or membership of a society. An accounting clerk, is just good at figures and hasn't really had time to study for a formal qualification. Incidentally, sometimes the Accounting clerk does a better job than the accountant!
