I have an interview for a facilities management company as an engineer, what can I do?
Asked by Robakai
I am a qualified Engineer, but lack some of the skills the title requires, altho they may train me further. The salary is great, the building is just down the street and they offer final salary pension. This job sounds like the one for me, I dont want to blow the interview. Anybody been in the situation? Can anybody offer me advice?

Agree with the above.
Also, emphasise that you learn fast and are looking for that challenge as it motivates and drives you in your career..
The best thing you can do is research everything you can find out on the company, they like to see that.
A:
Emphasise your skills. Minimise your weaknesses.
When you talk about skills you have make sure you tell them you can do it with your eyes shut. When you come to something you are not familiar with tell them you are a bit rusty but will be happy to retrain. There may be some compulsory stuff like gas engineers etc have to do.
Good luck.

Find out some background on the company and exactly what they do.
then in the interview tell them how you will improve the services they provide.
That should do it.

As an engineer, I hope at least, that you are logical. Look at the firms clients. This gives a clue as to the main source of income i.e the facilities they manage. See if you can get hold of the firms contract. That gives you an idea of their legal obligations. Use the same logic you did when you got your qualification!!!

I was just offered a lovely job yesterday, so listen up! Dress smart, but most importantly look positive and laugh at their jokes; nobody wants to employ a grumpy Gus. Let them know that you would like the job, and admit that you do not have all the skills but that you love the sound of the training that they offer and that it is worth investing time and money into you because you are a reliable and loyal person. But enjoy yourself, try not to be too nervous and get there early so you can have a coffee nearby and read the paper to relax you a little. Good luck my friend x
