When putting job history on a resume, how do I put a self imposed demotion?
Asked by butnozzle
If I list them in order from most current it would go Engineering Manager General Manager Engineering Manager I don't want to lie and say I am still General Manager and leave out the current Engineering Manager, but I don't want it to be interpreted that I was demoted due to poor performance. Since I have looked at several resumes in my time I know how easily a good candidate can get turned down just based on something being "off" on the resume. I just have never seen this situation on a resume. Help, please.

Best Answer:
2 words COVER LETTER put the circumstances on a cover letter

A:
I'd call the general manager job just engineering manager. It will be easier at an interview to explain that they are getting more than they bargained for.
