how much does a front desk manager ( of a big hotel ) or general manager of a small hotel make starting out?
Asked by backstage101
I'm about to graduate in May and the only related experience is being a front desk clerk ( a year's worth - cross trained in reservations and as a pbx operator). Right now I'm a packaging operator for Con Agra foods ( been there 5 years now)

In a big hotel, coming from your experience you would most likely start out as a Front Desk Supervisor and then move up to a Front Desk Manager...depending on what hotel chain, how luxurious, what state, the starting rate will vary, and experience plays a big deal in that and also does education, depending on what your major was and what your degree is in...big luxurious hotel front desk supervisor - probably around 11-12 an hour. Now a GM position of a smaller hotel you could make around 24k a year most likely with living quarters provided....it depends again on everything else...

I would suggest going to your school library and looking up your question in the 'Occupational Handbook" put out by the Federal government.
