Where can I find information on government grants for at home child care?

I am still in school for child care and I will be out by May. I would like to be able to have the info so when I get out of school I would have the info.

You stand a greater chance of getting a government-guaranteed loan through the Small Business Administration http://www.sba.gov/financing than a government grant It is hard to find grants to start a business. Unlike the myths that some perpetuate, federal government and even private foundations hardly give grant money for a for-profit business. And yes, grants mean PAPERWORK - lots and lots of it, that is why a cottage industry of grant writers was born. Nonetheless, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federal government to provide transparency and information on grants. Browse through the listings and see if you can find any grant that would support a for-profit venture. Even if you buy books on "how to get grants" or list that supposedly has information on grants -- all of them are mere rehash of what CFDA has, albeit packaged differently. But still the info is the same - hardly any grants for starting a for profit business. Even SBA does NOT give out grants. Check with your state Health and Human Resources. When you register with them they can even guide some children who are registered with them your way. I am in GA and I found they even have programs to reimburse you for food and field trips.

The internet's a good place to start. :-) Local libraries would have access to them as well. Learn to write a good proposal, you might have to take whole different course on it. Then put as many applications as you can to different organizations which pertain to what you want to do. If you need secretarial help, don't forget to apply for funds for that as well... If you don't have the toys, play things, educational crafts, etc., put that down. You may need a few more childcare workers to work with you, so you'll have to list that in your expenses as well.
