Go apply at any Oil or Gas Production Co. or Exploration Co. and apply as a "Roustabout " or " Yard Bird " , an entry level laborer job and start at the bottom. Most new hires have to start there, as the company wants to put you in an entry level position so they can move the present employees upward while you learn their procedures and policies. Geez...Alright, I don't know where you are or where you are looking but, call...Union Pacific Resources, Duke Energy, or Halliberton and apply for a damn Roustabout job! That's exactly what I did 20 years ago and Stayed in the Gas and Oil business for 15 before I went into business for myself. Retired now, happy, and secure. That's My advise...take it or leave it.

Networking - it's about who you know. Do up business cards with your contact info, give them out EVERYWHERE, hairdresser, grocery store, neighbors. Ask them if they know anyone in oil & gas who would recommend you. My hubby got in based on a recommendation from a neighbor. Beginning salary was awful, but as he's learned & progressed, he's doing pretty well now.
