What is the average annual salary of a professional photographer?
Asked by Wolf
I've always been interested to know this. How much can a professional photographer earn? For example, maybe a glamour photographer with a website for amateur models?

most photographers such as myself are self employed so it's up to you how much you earn.
on average you charge by the hour and this rate depends on where you live (it's much more in London).
for a photographers assistant it's minimum wage, but for the photographer it is between £75- £150 an hour depending on the job. But you have to be very good and know the right people as there is massive competition.
p.s sorry mate but the best glamour photographer at the min is a women, models seem to prefer it.

It's actually not as much as you would expect.
The national low for the average photographer in the US is 23644 and the average high 85728
But that all depends on your experience and how good you are. I'm sure if you have years upon years of experience and a good following you could get high 100k's.

I knew a photographer who charged between £600 £800 a shoot but that included overheads so in pocket a couple of £100 for a days work not bad.

If you're good and can get into advertising worlk/portaits of celebrities, then you could be looking at £2000 a day minimum. High end fashion photographers charge upwards of £10000, but there's only a handful of those and you're really paying for the name and the fact thtat they're artists in their own right.
Obviously it takes a while (and talent) to get to this level, and you've got equipment expenses etc. to come out of that. It's usual to start at the bottom assisting someone else for peanuts and work up from there while learning the job.
