Opportunist at Work!!!!!?
Asked by sandy_in_bc
I work for a reputable engineering company on a large project as Quality Control. There are 6 inspectors. One of the inspectors is a total opportunist. If there is food, supplies, whatever, he thinks he's entitled to it. He has no shame in asking for anything. He wasn't working prior to this job and he and his wife are into drugs (they have 2 kids). His vehicle is a total piece of crap. He asked the head of the project for a company vehicle to drive back and forth to work (about 40 minutes). The vehicles are used on site only. My boss get frustrated with him but doesn't do anything about his behaviour. His house burned down that he was renting, and he had no renter's insurance. Employees at work collected $ for his family. Because he and his wife are into drugs, people insisted that they get gift certificates for groceries, etc. He started up a trust fund for himself. Is this fraud? He has more now than he ever did, but he's always trying to take, take, take

That really pi$$es me off..... He needs to get a freaken life and get help for the drug addiction. Can you talk to who ever is in charge about him?? If so, thats what I would do, make them aware of the drug issues and see if he can be drug tested at work and put through a rehab program or fired.. Fired sounds harsh, but,,,, everyone has a rock bottom and maybe losing his job will help him find his rock bottom. People helping him, expecially financially is only enabling him. You should definitally try to find someone in charge whom you could talk to about this.

Being an opportunist is not necessarily a crime, but if you know for certain that this man and his wife are drug users I would not be involved in any of the "giving". If you are this concerned about the drug use, then your only responsibility would be to call child protective services for the children being forced to witness this.

Remember the expression "Time heals all wounds"? There's an opposite take on this expression: "Time wounds all heels". Patience, grasshopper... give him enough rope and he will hang himself. One nice thing about the self-destructive jerks: they are self-destructive! LOL!!!
