How much do over the road tractor trailer drivers make?
Asked by zoe
My sisters boyfriend drives a tractor trailer. (On the road for days, then off, owns his own rig) She is going to go with him working in Jan. He is promising her a "large" piece of land with a ranch, and horses. Is this something that can be affordable with this type of job, or is he just giving her a line.

It is possible to make good money if you don't mind working all the time, and not being home at all. If he wants to take her with him to drive they will be sleeping when they are not driving. My experience is that you can see a lot of wonderful places, but you don't really make that much money driving.

It can depend on several factors (including where the land is! Land can be expensive). Read about their truck driver salaries at the Occupational Outlook Handbok site, from the Dept. of Labor http://www.bls.gov/oco/cg/cgs021.htm#earnings
