When taking money from the customer, always say out loud how much the amount is... I mean not that loud...lol.. but just so the customer knows how much they give u..... if the total is $11.80 n the customer gives u a $20 dollar bill say out of 20 or whatever the amount they give u say whatever the amount is so u will press n the right amount on ur cash register, then when taking the money out the draw count it to urself then when giving it to the customer, count the amount out so the customer can hear u, so then very few mistakes should happen.....

I don't know, I have the same problem. It's really frustrating and you just end up blaming yourself and fearing to get fired. I have worked for 5 weeks as cashier now, it was easy to get the job (I'm young and unexprienced) and now I know why! When you're in hurry because the customers are impatient and lines long, mistakes happen. Sometimes it's not even your fault, maybe the manager counted the cash wrong before your shift. This happens here sometimes, the assistant manager is a bit negligent, so the lost money might be found after all.
