Can I sit for the CPA exam with automotive credits?
Asked by Lobster Dinosaur
I'll have 150 credit hours by the time I finish my bachelor's degree, but some of them (about 15) are in the automotive field. I also took a 7 credit truck driving class at a community college. This class shows up on my transcript. Will I be able to use these 7 credits as well to fullfill the 150 credit hour requirement? Wow great info so far, thanks a bunch. That's why I'm all geeked about this field - the people don't mess around and know their stuff.

Best Answer:
The minimum requirement to sit for the CPA exam in 44 states includes 150 semester hours of education, with at least a baccalaureate degree and a concentration in accounting. Nine of these 44 states allow you to sit with only 120 hours of education, but you can't get your CPA certification until you've completed the full 150 hours. The last 6 states have no specific education requirement. So, assuming you are in one of the states which requires 150 semester hours of education with at least a concentration in accounting, your truck driving credits would apply IF they also applied toward your bachelor's degree.

A:
Specific requirements for becoming a CPA, and the rights and obligations of a licensed CPA, are set forth in the laws and regulations of 54 United States jurisdictions. The laws of each jurisdiction establish a board of accountancy that is responsible for safeguarding the public interest by ensuring the competence and integrity of those who hold a CPA certificate or license. The board evaluates the qualifications of candidates, administers examinations, issues certificates and licenses to practice, promulgates rules of professional conduct, investigates complaints, holds hearings and takes disciplinary action. A:
Most states require a certain number of credit hours, or require certain courses, before you are allowed to sit for the exam. Check with the Board of Accountancy in the State you want to sit in.
