How would I know if plumbing was for me?
Asked by blueisland1019
Hey, I'm only 18 and a senior in High school and I was wondering wether or not I should go into a trade school and maybe go for plumbing. I was thinking electrician, but Math is not a strong ability that I happen to contain. How would I know if I wanted to be a plumber?

The only way to really find out what you like to do is to try it. Get some experience working with a plumber as a helper, and get to know what it is all about. The only way to find out is to do it. You have to get your hands dirty and get into it, and not for only a day or two. You need to be at it for six months, and by then you should have an idea whether or not you enjoy that particular trade. You don't even need to be paid for this work because the value of the experience will be far greater than any amount of money you could get.
From the AEN "How to Get Along in Life Handbook" This answer was carefully handcrafted from recycled materials. No animals or plants were harmed in the answering of this question. Any similarity with any person, living or dead, is purely coincidental and unintended. What, me worry?

Try practicing plumbing at your house or find a real plumber in your area... call them and ask if you can tag along with them for a day. Ask them questions and get involved.

Do you have a family friend or relative that might allow you to come help out plumbing? I come from a family of plumbers, my grandfather, father, brothers, uncles and now cousins too.... it's a great trade, great money. Try to get into commercial (of course) rather than residential because you'll make a heck of a lot more money and won't be crawling under houses so much. Good luck to you!
