Is anyone an electrician, pipefitter, or any kind of construction worker?
Asked by DXL
The reason i'm asking is because I want to find out what's the best way to get into these kinds of jobs, there is a lot of competition out there and I've already taken a few aptitude tests. I'm sure I've passed them all, but there's so many people applying so chances are slim. Any suggestion out there?? Please help, thank you.

I'm a Union Pipefitter and all I can suggest is that you get down to the union hall closest to your location or even look them up online. Find out when they will be taking a new group of apprentices and what the qualifications are. I know that a good number of pipefitter unions are lacking welders so. HVAC tech is a good suggestion too, they fall under pipefitters. Don't worry about having slim chances on getting into a trade, keep in mind that there are a lot of idiots out there that try to get in so your competition probably isn't as tough as you think. Good luck and don't wait too long!

A License in any of those fields, would help you in your job quest.. If you know someone working in those fields, and they know you, and your work ethic(good-worker), that could get you in "the-door" at where their job is. Other than that, it is just like every place else; you have to go through "The Hiring Phase" and testing, before selection of others applying for the same job(s)... At any job you do; "Do your best! Make A Hand(Work-Hard)!" Before too long, word will spread that you are "a good- hand"(worker), so the "Boss-Man" will be more apt to give you a "shot" on His job-site.... Until then, don't get discouraged, work any and every job that comes along, and give it your all. That will get you ahead of others wanting the sme job as you...

Go to the site that I link in the sources (below). It will give you an excellent idea of what's involved in getting into the electrical field, the type of work, licensing, salaries, and much more. Another field you may want to consider is HVAC technician. It's a little seasonal, but in high demand, and generally doesn't require a license other than to collect the coolant. Hope this helps.
