Career Questions and Answers
What are some career options after teaching?
Asked by mumzii
I have taught English for five years. I am in the middle of my sixth year teaching in the public school system, and I am very unhappy!! I feel trapped. I am working on my master's degree in English, but I want to get out NOW, not in two or three years. However, I also have a family to support and bills to pay! I am becoming very depressed; there is no escape!

Work at Camp. It's very fulfilling, although it doesn't pay as highly as you'd like it to. You can find camp jobs by going to www.campjobs.com. Or by signing up at ACAcamps.org. ACA (American Camping Association) accredited camps have higher standards for camps, which theoretically make them better camps to work at. They're always looking for certified teachers.

Have you tried writing? You could try it as a part time option. If not you could get into research or a librarian (entry level)

I would think that a lot of opportunity should exist, because most people regard teaching as a great credential.

You might have to wait until the end of the year...it would be too hard to just quit your job now. So i would wait, and then over the summer, look for new job oppertunaties.
