What type of a job can I get as a 52 year old minority female?
Asked by Beatrice M
I want to switch carreers and still be able to get insurance to cover myself and my daughter. I work for the state as a psychiatric care tech and earn a good income, but I am getting to old to work in a prison setting and feel safe. I need to earn the same income, and have insurance. I earn more than 35000 a year. I am willing to go back to school, but am unaware of what pays the equivalent of what I am earning now. I have checked with the state, and there are no jobs available unless I am willing to take a 6.00 an hour cut in pay. I would need financing for myself if I should return to school, and at the present time I am financing my daughters education as well.

You are in the age group where Ageism strikes. It will be very hard for you to find almost any type of work accept work that pays you less than 26,000 or lower. I am 62 and loaded with degrees and patents and want to work until I am 72. The only type of jobs I can get are around 7 dollars an hour and all you need to do is drive a van back and forth to the air port. I won't do that because I want some thing that is mentally stimulating. I would recommend you stay right where you are until you decide what you want and have a job offer in hand.
