What's the best way to get hired for entry-level oilfield work in Calgary?

How do I get my foot in the door without knowing anyone in the industry? I've got my safety tickets but nobody bites when I make cold calls or send out resumes. Any advice would be appreciated!

Well, I happen to live in Calgary and happen to live with a houseful of oilfield workers....lol. Right now the market is soft and work is quite sporadic, but there is work here, for sure. Things will pick up in the new year.
