Have you ever worked in a restaurant/fast food and how were you treated by the management?
Asked by doulasc
I know management is hard on their employees in the
restaurant/fast food business. The employees are in their
late teens-early 20s and it is usually their first job in life.
I am not implying that all managers are bad,but some can
be hard to take.
Why do they not care about morale? Most employees never get pay raises unless minimum wage goes up.

I remember working at MC D once..It was my first day on the job..after 2 hours on the register, the manager told me that I wasn't fast enough and that the only thing I was any good at was sweeping the floors..If you have ever worked at Mc D's you know the registers are complicated but after 2 hours on my first day..and BK managers were just as bad..I was treated as a 3rd class citizen with no education and I was older and more educated than some of the managers (I was in college). They don't care.. You are supposed to smile and always be happy but when their are no customers you are treated like dirt and always put down. real morale..I always loved orientation.."we are all team players." .HUH

I worked at a place for a little less than two years and I was treated pretty good. Of course, you can't expect everybody in the management to "like" you. I would say that it actually depends on the person. If you are a teenager who takes nothing seriously and you don't care about anything (show up late, mess around with orders, or wrong outfit, etc...) then the management won't be happy with you and most likely you will be let go of soon enough.
As for raise, that is true. They never give you raise on their own (unless the minimum wage goes up like you said) but I actually found out that you could just request one. So I would just request one like every six months and I would get it.

I was a fast food manager for 25 years, I had a lot of teen employees and I have to say if they were good or bad I treated all of them the same, I thought my teens were great. I am sorry you had bad Experiences, I had an asst. or ass that thought teens were totally stupid so when the time came for her raise she found out who was stupid she thought differently after that.
