How do I go about breaking into the event planning business??

I need help finding the most constructive, effective way to break into event planning! I live in Michigan and there are no actual schools or degrees for this. I'm at a crossroads and I really want this. Please someone help me! I appreciate any advice I can get!

You have first have to volunteer, then work as a trainee or apperentice to an established event planner. Go to Careerbuilder and look for jobs. If you want to do it on your own, ask your friend to give you a try---once you have the contract, and you feel you are over your head, you can always be the "lead" and bring in a caterer and event planning expert. You may not make money, but it will help you establish your credentials.
