What is a good first job that does not involve retail or food service?

A friend asked me, and I really do not know what to tell them, because that is how I started out.

+ how about Usher or ticket taker at a movie theater. Good benefit would be free move watching? Probably some miserable pay and stale popcorn. My best job starting out was Ice cream taster.
